The Reason Behind My Intake Questions

When you’re a new client in my chair, one of the first steps I ask you to take is filling out a new guest questionnaire. You’ll notice that, alongside questions about your hair history and goals, I also ask a few things related to your health. And I want to explain why that’s such an important part of my process.

Your health plays a direct role in the integrity of your hair and how it responds to color, lightener, or even extensions. Medications, medical treatments, hormonal shifts, and past surgeries can all influence the condition of your scalp, how your hair grows, or how it reacts to certain products.

Here are a few reasons I ask these questions:

  • Hair + Scalp Reactions: Certain medications and health conditions can increase the risk of irritation or unexpected reactions.

  • Hair Loss or Thinning: I often work with women navigating postpartum shedding, autoimmune hair loss, or hormonal thinning—knowing this in advance allows me to approach your hair with the right techniques and expectations.

  • Color & Chemical Sensitivities: If you’ve experienced sensitivity to color or other treatments before, I want to be aware of that so I can adjust the formulas I use—or avoid certain ingredients altogether.

  • Extensions & Tension Concerns: If you’re interested in hair extensions, your medical background helps me determine if your scalp and follicles are a good candidate for tension-based methods.

I know these questions can feel a little personal—but they are never asked lightly. They allow me to take a holistic approach, tailor your experience, and deliver the best possible results while keeping your safety front and center.

Thank you for trusting me with not just your hair, but with the details that help me do my job with integrity.
